The Ivanhoe RSL Rebuild Fundraising Event

On 21st April 2017, the historic Ivanhoe RSL club was destroyed by a fire, just days before Anzac Day.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) declared the roof of the building to be completely destroyed and much of the second floor had collapsed. Our grand building was built in 1913, and was in near original condition after our committee members spent endless months painting and bringing the unique building back to life.
The Ivanhoe RSL Committee and Club members are grateful for the co-operation that we have received from the insurer, and because we are dedicated to be able to restore the building back to the condition it was in prior to the fire, some things will not be covered by insurance, we need support from our local community at our upcoming Fundraising event.

Support for the Ivanhoe RSL

We’re all humbled by the massive amount of support we have been receiving from people and organisations all over the country.

We are hopeful that we will be able to repair the damage done to the building, but it will be quite a journey. Thankfully a lot of memorabilia was able to be salvaged from the fire today, specifically the historic US flag from Guadalcanal which is irreplaceable and was only recently restored.

I would like to make a special thank you to the men and women of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade who did an incredible job today and are still on-site tonight keeping a watchful eye on the building. The level of professionalism and care was truly appreciated.

The committee invites you all to come back when we eventually re-open. Emergency services personnel face many of the same issues as members of the armed services and we aim to provide the same level of support and comradery for them as we do to our returned service men and women.

There have been many requests asking for a method in which people can make a contribution towards the repair and restoration efforts to come. Eren from MyCause.com.au has kindly set us up with a page if you wish to do so. Please follow this link mycause.com.au/ivanhoeRSL

Thank you again, and please do buy a badge this ANZAC Day. Our building may be in ruins, but that’s not going to stop us from doing all that we can to honour and support our veterans!
